The Name
Before modern Hindi settled on "gehun," the farmers of the Ganga-Yamuna Doab called wheat by its older name. A word inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit, the language of the wheat heartland, spoken over a millennium ago.
Sanskrit → Prakrit → Dialect → Modern Hindi
The grain evolved. The farming changed. The word was nearly forgotten. Gohum is a return to the source — the oldest name, for the oldest way of growing.
